Our Mission

Fall fun

Our mission is to connect children to nature and their community by engaging them in the natural world through exploration and social-emotional development.

Our curriculum aims for hands-on, experiential learning outdoors. We emphasize:

  • Nature connection: interconnectedness to each other and our ecological systems
  • Multi-sensory science: using experimentation, hypothesis, and documentation
  • Movement: hiking, running, climbing, rolling downhill, dancing, and other gross motor skills
  • Community building and social skills: entering play, conflict resolution, self-regulation, and social thinking. We also work to nurture close relationships within the group so the children trust their teachers and listen to each other as a community.
  • Fine motor skills: building with natural materials, art projects, studying insects, and more!
  • Language development: We read books every day and use rich language in our teaching.
  • Diversity and inclusion: We cultivate curiosity and appreciation for other cultures and traditions while building our own.
  • Confidence through skill-building and independence: We teach benefit-risk analysis in play and exploration. We strongly encouraging autonomy with gear and a child-led interest curriculum.
  • "Since Time Immemorial" curriculum is utilized all year.

Typical Day

Daily Rhythm

Arrival: Children explore. Teachers share the plan for the day.

Activity: Usually something related to what is going on in nature or what the children have shown an interest in.

Adventure/Hike: We have access to forest, hills, sand pits, beaches climbing trees, and a creek.

Snack/Lunch: Packed in a (squirrel-proof) backpack or lunch sack, brought from home. We eat in a circle and commune together.

Closing Circle: This is where we reflect as a group and share our experience of the day.
